california proposition 65 (also known as safe drinking water and toxic enforcement act) was enacted as a ballot initiative in november 1986. prop 65 businesses are required to provide a "clear and reasonable" warning before knowingly and intentionally exposing anyone to a listed chemical “known to the state” to cause cancer or reproductive harm.
starting from april 21, 2023, two substances including 1,1,1-trichloroethane (cas number 71-55-6) and c.i. acid green 73 (cas number 129-73-7), has been added to the list of known carcinogens under proposition 65. this list requires warning labels to be placed on goods according to the mechanism established by the california labor code.
echa’s committee for risk assessment (rac) supports the proposal to restrict polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) in clay targets for shooting. the proposed restriction introduces,
a 0.005 % weight by weight concentration limit for the sum of 18 indicator pahs since its implementation; and
a 1 % concentration limit after a one-year transition.
