recently, japan has detected sodium aluminate dioxide (cas no.: 1302-42-7) in some imported products containing sodium aluminate (cas number: 11138-49-1).

in accordance with the announcement of the ministry of health, labour and welfare (mhlw), sodium aluminate dioxide was classified as deleterious substance under the poisonous and deleterious substances control law (pdscl) on july 1, 2018. if a company engages in products containing sodium aluminate, it is suggested to confirm with the purchaser or manufacturer whether sodium aluminate dioxide is contained.

on july 19, 2023, based on the pdscl, the mhlw announced that manufacturers, importers (only for sales and supply, etc.) or sellers of products confirmed to contain aluminum sodium dioxide shall register as poisonous and deleterious substances operators by october 31, 2023. necessary measures shall be taken including providing sellers and users with information related to properties and handling methods of deleterious substances.

these measures aim to regulate the use of products containing sodium aluminate dioxide to ensure people's health and environmental safety.  government will continue to strengthen the regulation of deleterious substances to ensure that chemicals are used properly and handled safely.
